Sacrament of Baptism

What is the Sacrament of Baptism?

Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation, through which individuals are cleansed of original sin and reborn as children of God. It is essential for salvation and marks the beginning of a person's journey in the Christian faith. "Baptism is the gateway to life in the Spirit" (CCC 1213). This sacrament is rooted in the command of Christ, who instructed His disciples to baptize all nations (Matthew 28:19) and is celebrated with the pouring of water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity.

Baptism Preparation Class

Our Baptism Preparation Class is designed to educate parents and godparents about the meaning and significance of the Sacrament of Baptism, as well as the practical aspects of the ceremony itself.

The class is offered in-person and covers topics such as the role of parents and godparents, the meaning and effects of the Sacrament, and the promises and commitments made during the ceremony. We also discuss raising children in the Catholic faith and the importance of ongoing spiritual development.

During the class, teachers and attendees do a walk-through of the Baptism ceremony in the church. The purpose of the walk-through is to ensure all parties understand how to move and what to say during the ceremony.

Our Baptism Preparation Class is offered on the Friday before the 3rd Sunday of each month at 7:00 pm Please call the parish office for more details at 540-338-6381.
