First Communion

What is the Sacrament of First Communion?

The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ, which nourishes the faithful and strengthens their union with God. It is the source and summit of Christian life, as affirmed in the Catechism: "The Eucharist is the culmination of the sacramental economy" (CCC 1324). This sacrament is celebrated during the Mass, where the bread and wine are consecrated and become the true presence of Christ, as established at the Last Supper (Luke 22:19-20).

"When you have received Him, stir up your heart to do Him homage; speak to Him about your spiritual life, gazing upon Him in your soul where He is present for your happiness; welcome Him as warmly as possible, and behave outwardly in such a way that your actions may give proof to all of His Presence."

— St. Francis de Sales on the Holy Eucharist
