Coordinator of Youth Ministry for Middle School

Position Type: Part-time (non-exempt)
Hours: 10 to 15 hours per week
Compensation: Hourly Pay $16.00 per hour
Temporary Appointment Notice
This position will be filled temporarily for a period not to exceed six months. At any time during
this period, it may be determined that the position will become permanent. Should the position
be made permanent, the selected candidate may continue in the role without the need to
participate in a subsequent competitive hiring process.
Position Summary
The Coordinator of Youth Ministry for Middle School (CYM) develops, implements, and
evaluates a vibrant parish ministry for students in grades 6–8. Under the direction of the Director
of Youth Ministry, the CYM accompanies middle school youth as they grow in relationship with
Jesus and become active participants in parish life through prayer, catechesis, fellowship,
service, evangelization, and discipleship.
Key Responsibilities
Faith Formation & Programming
- Plan and lead weekly or bi-weekly gatherings.
- Catechize using the Diocese of Arlington Secondary Religion Guidelines.
- Provide prayer, Scripture reflection, devotions, and sacramental opportunities.
- Design fellowship, service, leadership, and recreational experiences.
- Coordinate service projects, social events, summer programs, and special events.
- Encourage participation in parish liturgies and diocesan events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Relational Ministry
- Build authentic, pastoral relationships with middle school students.
- Create a welcoming environment where every youth feels known and valued.
- Support parents as primary faith educators while maintaining healthy ministerial boundaries.
Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, schedule, and mentor adult volunteers.
- Assist the Director in ensuring Safe Environment compliance and volunteer training.
Parish Engagement
- Promote integration of youth into parish ministries, liturgies, and service opportunities.
- Help foster a parish culture of welcome for young people and families.
Administration
- Manage registrations, attendance, permission forms, communications, calendars, and event logistics.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with program evaluation and long-range planning.
- Support parish-wide events as needed.
Work Schedule
- 10–15 hours per week.
- Flexible schedule requiring regular evening and weekend ministry.
- Additional hours may occasionally be required for retreats, service projects, or diocesan events.
Qualifications
Required
- Practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
- Strong personal faith and regular sacramental participation.
- Ability to relate to adolescents and families.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Basic computer proficiency (Outlook, Google Workspace, Canva, Microsoft Office, familiarity with record-keeping systems).
Preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in Catholic youth ministry, catechesis, education, or a related ministry.
- Experience leading middle and high school age groups and recruiting volunteers.
Safe Environment
Must complete Diocese of Arlington Safe Environment training, background check, and
fingerprinting prior to first ministry event; parish will assist with registration. Maintain
compliance with all diocesan and parish child protection policies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift and carry supplies up to 30 pounds.
- Local travel for diocesan and ministry events.
- Participation in outdoor activities.
